Freelance React Developer in Hamburg

I'm Alexander Löhn, a freelance software developer based in Hamburg, Germany. I've spent roughly 5 years on medium-sized React applications using Next.js, Gatsby, and TypeScript — on top of 21 years of building for the web.

I like React for how explicit it is: issues surface early and are easy to debug. Recent React work includes the CMS-less website relaunch for Sorpetaler — a Gatsby and TypeScript site where editorial content lives in the repository and AI assists with content edits. No CMS, no license fees.

At a glance

  • 5 years of React with Next.js, Gatsby, and TypeScript
  • 21 years of web development overall — HTML, CSS, and JavaScript since 2005
  • Also 8 years of Vue.js, so I can work across mixed frontends
  • Works embedded in your team, as lead developer, or solo end to end
  • Available now — up to 30 hours per week, remote or on-site in Hamburg

Selected projects

  • Sorpetaler Frontend Developer · Nov 2025 – 2025

A CMS-less website relaunch for Sorpetaler, with no separate content management system. Editorial content is updated directly in the source repository, and AI assists authors in editing copy and page structure in place.

  • BusinessBike Frontend Lead · Aug 2017 – Sep 2018

Bike leasing platform with a React frontend. The application supports the employer-employee bicycle leasing workflow, from browsing and configuring bikes through the full leasing process.

Frequently asked questions

Do you take on remote React projects?
Yes. I'm based in Hamburg, Germany, and work remotely for clients across Germany and Europe. On-site or hybrid work in and around Hamburg is also possible.
React or Vue — which one should I pick?
Both are excellent, and I've shipped production apps in each. Vue is my longest-running framework at 8 years; React is where I've spent the last 5. I'll recommend whatever fits your team and project — and I can work in either.
What does your React stack look like?
Next.js or Gatsby depending on the project, TypeScript throughout, Tailwind CSS for styling, and headless CMSs like Storyblok or Contentful when a CMS is needed at all.
Can you take over an existing React codebase?
Yes — that's a large part of my work. I use AI-assisted refactoring, testing, and documentation to modernize legacy code without stopping feature delivery.
How quickly can you start?
I'm available now for up to 30 hours per week. Reach out via email or the AI assistant on my homepage, and we can usually get started within days.
